English for Business (EFB) is one of LCCI’s flagship qualifications and, as such, is respected internationally by employers and universities. Many employers specify EFB as a standard for recruitment, and universities recognize EFB Level 3 as fulfilling their English language requirements. EFB is a written examination with an optional oral exam and is available at five levels to suit your ability. All the tasks included in the exam are based on real-life activities found in the everyday working environment. This qualification is intended for candidates at all levels, from those with a basic understanding of English in a business context through to those who have reached a high standard of productive English. Tasks include reading comprehension and writing a variety of business correspondence. The optional oral exam is based around a discussion of a business-related topic.
English Language Skills Assessment
English Language Skills Assessment (ELSA) is a suite of proficiency tests designed to assess your overall English language skills. Focusing on the core skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, ELSA scores are accompanied by an explanation which predicts performance in a business context.
You cannot fail the ELSA tests as a score report is created for each individual test from an analysis of your results. This score report describes your level of English and what you can communicate in the language. ELSA tests can be taken at any time, for example at the end of a course or independently if you need an English certificate quickly to apply for a job or for a university place. Many students take ELSAs on a regular basis, particularly at the beginning and end of an English language course, so that they can monitor their progress as they improve their English skills.
Written English for the Tourism Industry
Available at two levels, Written English for the Tourism Industry (WEFT) is aimed at professional working in travel and tourism. Level 1 is designed for staff working in travel agencies, airlines, hotels, tour operators and tourist information centers and covers documentation such as booking forms, maps and timetables. Level 2 is appropriate for administrative and managerial staff in the field, and builds on Level 1 to develop candidates’ understanding of related materials.
Spoken English for Industry and Commerce
Spoken English for Industry and Commerce (SEFIC) is an oral examination which assesses non-native speaker candidates’ ability to communicate in a business environment. The exam is available at five levels, and is ideal if speaking English is most important to you. Candidates are assessed in a practical and informal one-to-one interview, conducted by an LCCI-approved external examiner. The exam comprises a variety of tasks, including general conversations, role-plays set in a business situation and listening comprehension. There are also special options for presentations, and telephone tests are available at Level 2, 3 and 4.
